Tyren Jones, who is one of the state’s top college prospects and committed to Alabama on a football scholarship, suffered a broken jaw after an altercation at his high school, according to multiple reports.
It was first reported by Score Atlanta’s Craig Sager, who said Jones was involved in a Friday locker-room scrap with sophomore Taquar Stewart and had his jaw broken in two places. The website reported that witnesses have met with school officials and said that Jones did not throw a punch. If Jones is suspended, he will likely miss Wednesday’s signing ceremony at the school. The Marietta Daily Journal also confirmed the injury and Monday’s surgery for Jones on his jaw, through a source that requested anonymity.
It has been a tough few months for Jones, an AJC Super 11 selection. His senior season ended early with a knee injury against Etowah on Nov. 2.
