If there is one person in the NFL whose word is taken as gospel, it is New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. If reports are true regarding his dislike for free-agent quarterbackTim Tebow, then it could be even tougher for Tebow to find an NFL job than initially thought.
Will the Patriots take a chance on Tebow?
According to Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports, Belichick "hates" Tebow as a player despite rumors regarding the Pats possibly having interest in signing him. When asked about the odds of New England signing Tebow, Silver's source shot it down immediately.
"No chance. Plus they wouldn't like the circus that comes with it."
This may not seem like a big deal since the Patriots have Tom Brady and have little use for a player like Tebow anyway, but Belichick has been very complimentary of Tebow in the past. While Belichick is famous for his ability to talk up opposing players and teams regardless of how good they are, ESPN'sSkip Bayless marveled at Belichick's apparent love for Tebow back in October.
Apparently it was all an act, as Belichick has either soured on Tebow or never liked him to begin with. In terms of character, there is perhaps nobody in the league better than Tebow, so he fits the Patriots' profile in that regard. At the same time, the Pats generally prefer to avoid controversy, and Tebow brings too much of it with him wherever he goes.
NFL teams ultimately make their own decisions, but there always seems to be talk about players being damaged goods when they are released or passed over by the Patriots.
Tebow is damaged goods to begin with as he had a wasted season with the New York Jets last season and was unable to beat out Mark Sanchez for the starting quarterback job.
Maybe Tebow will be fortunate enough to latch on with somebody, but it doesn't seem likely that it will be with Belichick's Patriots.
