No. 3 Wichita State the first 29-0 team since 2005

Drake v Wichita State
We have our first 29-0 team since Deron Williams was still a collegian.
On Saturday, No. 3 Wichita State got 21 points from Tekele Cotton and 15 points from Darius Carter off the bench as they steamrolled Drake, 83-54.
The Shockers cut down the nets after the win, because with just two games left in the regular season, WSU has already clinched the Missouri Valley title.
It’s the first time that anyone has been 29-0 since Illinois pulled off the feat in 2004-2005. That season was Bruce Weber’s first in Champaign, and he rode the talented back court of Luther Head, Deron Williams and Dee Brown to the national title game. Their first loss came in the final game of the regular season to Ohio State.
The Shockers are currently ranked No. 3 in the country, but with No. 2 Florida struggling in their two wins and No. 1 Syracuse taking two losses, don’t be surprised to see the Shockers get quite a few votes for No. 1 in the country on Monday morning.

How Tar Heels Can Get off Bubble and into the Dance

UNC Basketball: How Tar Heels Can Get off Bubble and into NCAA Tournament

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports
The North Carolina Tar Heels are squarely on the bubble of the 2013 NCAA tournament and will need to perform well down the stretch in order to reach the Big Dance.
UNC is a respectable 19-8 through a majority of the 2012-13 campaign, and it has four regular-season games left to really make an impression on the selection committee.
With an RPI of 21 and SOS of 11, the Tar Heels are just a few quality wins away from joining the field of 68 and having their name called on Selection Sunday. Let’s take a look at where they can get them.
Things will get started on Wednesday night against the Clemson Tigers—a team that has suffered tough losses to NC State, Miami and Maryland over the past couple of weeks, with the former two coming by a combined three points.

The contest certainly won't be a cakewalk for coach Roy Williams’ squad. It will definitely be tested against a feisty ACC foe that will not back down from anyone.
Florida State is up after, but the Seminoles are having a down year and this one should be an easy victory for the Tar Heels. A loss here would be a huge blemish on North Carolina’s resume at the most inopportune of times, so it must soundly walk away with a “W.”
Maryland, another bubble team, serves as the final road opponent UNC must face and is an extremely important battle. If the Tar Heels can steal one on the road against theTerps, they will almost surely be dancing.
Of course, if the Heels wind up winning all three, there should be little doubt about their resume for March Madness. However, if they stumble, the season finale against No. 3 Duke will be the most anticipated game of the year in Chapel Hill.
It would be a rematch of a Tobacco Road matchup won by the Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor back on Feb. 13, in which the Tar Heels gave a sound effort but fell five points short.

If UNC could keep things that close again—or even score an improbable win—the team would undoubtedly be selected to participate in the Big Dance.
As always, the Tar Heels have a chance to impress the committee during the ACCtournament, and a run to the semifinals or further would certainly secure a spot in the 68-team field. In fact, if UNC could outright win the tourney, it would receive an automatic bid and head to the dance as one of the higher seeds.
North Carolina has battled its way back into contention and is right on the cusp of dancing, so make sure you keep an eye on these young players as they try to dot the I’s and cross the T’s leading up to Selection Sunday.

Nick Saban Dismisses 4 Alabama Players

Nick Saban Dismisses 4 Alabama Players from Team After Criminal Charges

Four Alabama football players facing serious charges have been dismissed from the program by Nick Saban, according to Alex Scarborough of ESPN.com'sTideNation.
Freshman safety Eddie Williams, redshirt freshman D.J. Pettway, freshman linebacker Tyler Hayes and redshirt freshman Brent Calloway are no longer with the Crimson Tide.
According to AL.com, Williams, Pettway and Hayes are charged with second-degree robbery after allegedly attacking and robbing two University of Alabama students on Feb. 11. Calloway faces one count of fraudulent use of a credit card. Williams was also arrested Sunday for gun possession without a license.
After their third championship in four years, this is the last thing the Crimson Tide need. You have to give credit to Saban for doing the right thing when there is so much pressure to win in Tuscaloosa every year.
Hayes played sparingly in 13 games and registered 14 tackles in 2012. Pettwayrecorded four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Calloway recorded eight tackles on special teams and rushed 10 times for 63 yards. Williams didn't play in 2012.
This was Calloway's second scrape with the law after being charged with second-degree marijuana possession in October 2011 (per AL.com).
It appears Saban has chosen to move on without these players, sacrificing some talent on the field but upholding the reputation of the university. While the four young men didn't play much in 2012, they certainly had potential. Williams is a former 5-star recruit.
College football has taken its fair share of abuse for doing the wrong thing behind the scenes throughout the years. It's good to know programs like Alabama don't try to sweep things under the rug.

SNELLVILLE -- Shiloh's Nate Mason made SportsCenter's top 10 plays last week for his game winning shot in a national tournament.
The junior had another highlight reel performance on Wednesday in the first round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs.
Mason hit the game-winner with 2.3 seconds left to lift Shiloh past Walton 54-52.
"This one has got to be bigger," Mason said. "This is for the state championship. We lose this and we're out."
Mason led all scorers with 26 points and put Shiloh in the second round against Peachtree Ridge, which defeated Centennial.
"They are big and aggressive. It will be intense," Shiloh coach Kim Rivers said. "They are a very good team on that side of Gwinnett."
The big shot was one of many for the 5-foot-11 Mason, who transferred from Columbia, this season. Mason hit a half-court shot to beat St. Francis (Md.) on Jan. 26 in Florida. The shot got the attention of former NBA All-Star Shaquille O'Neal, who was in attendance and made ESPN's top plays.
"Bottom line. No ifs, ands or buts about it. You want him to have it," Rivers said.
Shiloh (22-6) lost to eventual state champion Milton in the second round of last year's playoffs. It looked like it was going to be another early exit for the Generals, who won the Region 8-AAAAAA championship.
No. 4 seed Walton (13-13) had a 14-point lead in the second quarter and led 30-19 at the half.
"I think it was a little bit of nerves," Mason said of the first half. "In the second half, we got the jitters out."
Shiloh began the third quarter with eight straight points to cut Walton's lead to 30-28 after Trayvon Reed's layup. But Walton answered right away with Rico Overall knocking down one of his five 3-pointers. Overall led the Raiders with 23 points, while Maurice Gibson had 10.
Overall made a layup at the end of the quarter to help push Walton's lead to 43-33 to start the fourth quarter.
Shiloh scored seven straight points to start the fourth period, which was led by Mason's 3-pointer.
"The 3-pointer was big and changed the momentum," Rivers said.
Mason hit another 3 to give Shiloh its first lead since the first quarter with 5:16 left in the game.
Overall countered with a pair of 3-pointers to tie the game twice, including one with 1:33 left in the game to make it 52-52.
"He kept shooting the ball real careful and smooth," Mason said.
Mason was fouled on two attempts to the basket in the final 30 seconds of the game. He finally got through the defense and hit a shot at the top of the key to send Shiloh to the second round.
"I knew he was going to foul me and I had to get past him and make a shot," Mason said.
Reed finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and five blocks for the Generals.
"We didn't play our game," Rivers said. "We played one of our worst games, but we were able to come out alive and get the W."
